With the World Cup now over and the focus quickly turning back to the domestic leagues here are some facts from South Africa 2010 that you may or may not already know…

1. New Zealand were the only unbeaten team in the tournament (3 draws).
2. Spain are the lowest scoring team in history to lift the World Cup, scoring just 8 goals in their 7 matches.
3. The Golden Ball was won by Thomas Muller of Germany despite having the same tally as 3 other players. Muller won because he had the highest number of assists.
4. Miroslav Klose scored more goals at the World Cup than he did in the entire 09/10 domestic season.
5. It is the first time that both finalists from the last World Cup have been eliminated at the group stage.
6. There were fewer shots on target during the tournament than at any previous World Cup.
7. Paul the psychic Octopus correctly predicted all of his 8 matches.
8. It is the first time a European team has won the World Cup outside of Europe.
9. Spain kept a clean sheet in every one of their knock out matches, a feat they also achieved at Euro 2008.
10. Howard Webb became a record breaker by issuing the highest amount of cards in a single match at the World Cup showing 14 yellow cards and 1 red in the final.
