Kenny Dalglish’s return to management hit a new low yesterday as Liverpool were thrashed by relegation strugglers Bolton.

Owen Coyle’s Wanderers saw out a 3-1 victory leaving Liverpool in 7th place in the premier league, one point behind Newcastle and Arsenal and fifteen points behind league leaders Manchester City.

Under Dalglish, Liverpool fans thought they’d found the man to take them back to challenging for the title but in truth, Dalglish’s mistakes are starting to cost them. There’s no bigger mistake than the whopping great fee Dalglish paid for Andy Carroll, a player that many expected to hit the ground running. Ironic really, as running is about the only thing Carroll has managed in a red shirt – Carroll simply doesn’t fit in to the Liverpool way of playing. His goal return is living proof of that fact (4 goals in 25 appearances).

Much like Arsene Wenger, Dalglish is a manager that cannot be sacked. His achievements are too great. At least he cannot be publicly sacked. So Liverpool find themselves in a difficult position, thats the problem when you install a club legend as manager.

The Liverpool board now have a difficult decision ahead of them. They’ve already backed Dalglish with significant funds which hasn’t yet worked out – do they continue to back the man in charge and hope they can keep up with the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United?

Liverpool are in serious danger of becoming a Europa League club.
