The Sack Race
July 20th, 2010 by DaveIt’s always good to find a negative before the season starts so let’s have a look at the current betting odds for the Premier League 2010/11 sack race…
Leading the pack and the current favourite to be first out is Manchester City’s Roberto Mancini at 4/1. City bosses will expect big things from their millions and if they don’t get off to a good start the pressure will mount very quickly.
Mancini is followed very closely by Newcastle’s Chris Hughton (9/2). No-one really know what to expect from Newcastle this season and while the club are unstable at the best of times, I can’t see Hughton being the first out.
The promoted teams take up the next 2 slots with Ian Holloway and Roberto Di Matteo at 6/1 and 7/1. Holloway and Di Matteo will only be expected to retain their clubs status in the premier league so unless the get off to a horrendous start I would expect to see them both last until Christmas.
If you really fancy taking a risk you could throw your money on Sir Alex Ferguson at 80/1 but it would be one of the biggest shocks in recent football history where he to end his time at Manchester United prematurely.
The value bets are probably Carlo Ancelotti (33/1) with his ageing squad and the man responsible for last season’s overachievers Tony Pulis (20/1).
