Premier League Round Up – 29 August 2010

Chelsea maintained their position at the top of the table with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Stoke at Stamford Bridge. The goals coming either side of half time with Malouda grabbing the opener and Drogba killing the game from the spot.

The Walcott continued his fine form in Arsenal’s away win over Blackburn. Walcott scoring in the 20th minute, Diouf responding in the 27th and Arshavin taking the game to 2-1 with the winner in the 51st minute.

Manchester United returned to winning ways beating West Ham 3-0. Goals from Rooney (pen), Nani and Berbatov condemning West Ham to a 3rd straight defeat.

In form Andy Carroll earned Newcastle an away point at Wolves, his second half goal cancelling out Ebanks-Blake’s opener.

The shock result of the weekend was probably Spurs home defeat to the very inconsistent Wigan. Hugo Rodallega scored the only goal in the 80th minute.

Blackpool grabbed a point against Fulham and Bolton staged a late 10 man comeback to earn a draw against Birmingham.

Other notable results were Aston Villa’s 1-0 victory at home to Everton. Fernando Torres scoring the only goal of the game to beat West Brom at Anfield and Darren Bent’s injury time penalty giving Sunderland the victory over Manchester City.

The top of the table now looking very familiar with Chelsea, Arsenal, Man Utd and Villa making up the top 4. Meanwhile at the bottom West Ham look nailed on for relegation with no points from 3 games and a goal difference of -8.
