Premier League Round Up – 2 January 2012
January 2nd, 2012 by DaveAnother series of shock results presented some displeased managers with an opportunity to get behind a winter break in the premier league.
Fresh from their excellent win over Chelsea, Aston Villa looked lost as Swansea grabbed their first away win of the season scoring 2 goals and keeping a clean sheet in the process. Darren Bent was isolated up front and may have his mind on other things after being linked with a move to Liverpool.
Another team on the back of a great performance were Steve Keane’s Blackburn Rovers. Stoke weren’t about to get carried away with Blackburns recent performances and left Ewood Park with a 2-1 victory. Peter Crouch grabbing both goals for the potters.
Joey Barton got QPR off to a flying start with an early goal against Norwich before being sent off for violent conduct shortly before the interval. 10 man QPR couldn’t hold on and went down to a 2-1 defeat.
Chelsea made hard work of a 2-1 victory against Wolves. Frank Lampard controversially netting the winner in the 89th minute. Lampard shouldn’t have been on the pitch after a bad challenge in the first half for which he should have received a red card. Wolves boss Mick McCarthy will no doubt be on the receiving end of disciplinary action shortly as a result.
The evening’s kick of saw former Spurs boss Martin Jol restore Bobby Zamora to Fulham’s starting XI after a reported bust-up between the two. Zamora with a point to prove scored the winner in the 90th minute after Arsenal had led for the bulk of the game.
Once again today’s winners turned out to be Spurs who play West Brom at White Hart Lane tomorrow evening.
