Torres’s open-goal miss in the Manchester United vs Chelsea game is being hailed as a huge mistake. However, what about the rest of the game? United won by three goals to one, in what was a relatively exciting game. Played at Old Trafford, the teams walked out into promising sunshine and the game began.

This game was hard work for both teams and fans watched on with baited breath. Whether they watched from the sidelines, or had the television on in their living rooms while playing Partypoker, everyone was supporting their team. The first minute saw United kick-off with Hernandez running down behind Chelsea’s back line. However, he was not able to prevent a goal kick.

Ashley Cole helps Chelsea push forward for the first time with a volleyed cross to Ramires. David de Gea then makes an impressive save with his feet, keeping the score at 0-0. The first goal of the game came for Manchester United before 10 minutes had passed after Ashley Young was fouled. 30 yards out on United’s left flank, he took the free kick which Chris Smalling met with a goal-winning header.

Play continues and United are awarded a central free-kick in the 19th minute. Around 30 yards out, Rooney spreads the ball to the right in a cross that is only half-cleared, dropping into the box when Evans cuts it back. Lampard catches the ball between his face and shoulder in an attempt to clear the ball. He then sends a right-footed volley down the field, but it ends up falling wide.

Chelsea are giving a strong performance even though they are behind. Rooney shoots for goal for Manchester United, but it flies wide and the score remains the same. The next goal comes on the 37th minute for Manchester United. Nani played a powerful shot into the top corner and the score moved to 2-0. The 45th minute brings even more excitement for Manchester United with their third goal of the game. Rooney scores this one just before half time.

Chelsea attempt a come-back after the break with Torres scoring his second ever goal wearing a Chelsea shirt. However, this is the last goal of the game, with his last attempt turning into the now infamous missed opportunity.
