Following a leaked cover of The Independent in Twitter last night which suggested that Alex Ferguson was ready to sell Wayne Rooney, both parties have released a joint statement dismissing the story.

The article suggested that the relationship between Rooney and Ferguson had broken down and was beyond repair, this following Ferguson dropping Rooney after his impromptu night out celebrating Manchester United’s victory over Wigan on Boxing Day.

The denial will come as a relief to United fans as Rooney will be expected to play a big part in the second half of the season for Manchester United.
