City Ease Past Liverpool

January 3rd, 2012 by

Manchester City breezed past Liverpool tonight in a game that really showed them as worthy title contenders. Sergio Aguero opened the scoring early on with a shot from outside the box that somehow made its way past Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

Liverpool without the suspended Luis Suarez looked toothless in attack despite having the lions share of the ball. Andy Carroll once again finding himself isolated in a red shirt, short on goalscoring opportunities.

Shortly before the break Yaya Toure added a second for City glancing a header into the net from a corner.

A crazy period in the second half saw Gareth Barry see red for a second bookable offence only for Milner to score a penalty seconds later after Toure took a dive in the penalty area.

Try as they might, Liverpool couldn’t break down a resolute City defence well marshalled by the impressive Vincent Kompany. Even the second half introduction of Liverpool talisman Steven Gerrard couldn’t aid the reds cause. Another night to forget for Andy Carroll as City celebrate another victory.
