Boxing Day RoundupDave
Current Premier League Champions Manchester United closed the gap on Manchester City and went level on points after thrashing Wigan 5-0 at Old Trafford. Dimitar Berbatov seizing his opportunity and helping himself to a hat-trick in a rare start for the Bulgarian.
Manchester City were held to a goalless draw away at West Brom which leaves them top of the league on goal difference. Roberto Mancini will be hoping that this isn’t the start of a mini collapse for his collection of superstars.
Chelsea and Liverpool will be both disappointed to have only grabbed a point. Fulham coming from a goal down at Stamford Bridge and Liverpool themselves having to fight back after conceding the lead against Blackburn.
All this will please Spurs and Arsenal who both play tomorrow evening and will be looking for 3 points to keep the pace with the league leaders and further pull them away from the chasing pack.
Elsewhere Martin O Neill’s Sunderland grabbed another point at home to Everton and Newcastle United got back to winning ways condemning Owen Coyle’s shell shocked Bolton team to a 2-0 defeat. Surprise player of the season Demba Ba adding to his already impressive tally by scoring the second.
In the evening fixture Stoke took on Aston Villa at the Britannia Stadium. The game ended up in a rather dull goalless draw that would probably leave Tony Pulis the happier of the two managers.
