Greedy Barcelona Fail To Pay Player Wages
July 9th, 2010 by Dave
No content with being all their recent success Barcelona have recently been on another spending spree literally breaking the bank at the same time.
The recent acquisition of Valencia’s David Villa cost them a whopping £34.2m, not bad for a team already considered the best in the world. The Catalan giants are also courting the services of Cesc Fabregas much to Arsenal’s annoyance – a transfer that will likely cost them around the £30m mark.
In light of this, it was particularly surprising yesterday when Barcelona club president announced that they had failed to pay their players at the end of June and had taken out a loan of £125m to help matters.
Barcelona are a club that will always make money, a global fan base and success on the pitch sees to that but the fact that they’re chasing some of the world’s best and most expensive players whilst at the same time not being able to pay their players is a little ridiculous. Even more so when you consider they already have the best team in the world and were unfortunate to miss out on last seasons Champions League.
The signing of Villa in particular is likely to be the final nail in the coffin for the out of favour Thierry Henry and the hugely overpriced and over rated Zlatan Ibrahimovic. How much they will recoup of the €40m paid to Inter Milan for the latter is debatable following a number of inept performances in big matches last season.

I was surprised to hear this, but then again it doesn’t. The amount of debt the top european clubs have is just plain stupid.
What happens if the TV deal falls through? Big named players will have to depart, Lionel Messi et all….
