England qualify and Capello stays
October 9th, 2011 by DaveEngland saw out a 2-2 draw with Montenegro on Friday evening thus qualifying them for Euro 2012. If you detect anything less than excitement in my tone as I write this that can be squarely leveled at England’s hapless manager Fabio Crapello.
Capello has taken an England team that weren’t very good and has essentially kept them at exactly that level. Sure Capello has qualified for both tournaments he has managed the team for but what’s the point in qualifying when you put in the kind of performances that England did in South Africa?
Ordinarily England are usually second or third favourites at any tournament they turn up for, although the gamblers among you would be quick to point out that this is more to do with the amount of patriotic bets placed on them than it is the expectations to actually go and win anything.
While Capello looks useless as our national manager a large part of the blame must be placed on the FA who gave Capello such a lucrative contract that they cannot afford to let the man go.
Why not cut the salary right back for the next England manager and find a manager that actually wants to do the job rather than take what is a very easy ride that is unbelievably highly paid.
Harry Redknapp, England awaits…
