AC Milan Give Arsenal A Footballing Lesson

February 16th, 2012 by

Arsène Wenger
AC Milan put an impressive performance in at the San Siro last night that did as much to showcase their talents as it did to highlight the weaknesses of Arsenel Wenger’s current crop of players.

Rarely have Arsenal been so dominated in European competition. It was a case of men against boys and the tie is all but over unless Arsenal can find one of the greatest comebacks in Champions League history.

The game finished 4-0 to Milan, the goals coming from Boateng, Robinho (2) and Ibrahimovic. Arsene Wenger has labelled the result a disaster and went on to say “We don’t live in a dream world. There is maybe a 2% or 5% chance statistically, but realistically we are out of this competition.

“We made mistake after mistake and we were punished.”

No team before has come back from the same scoreline after the first leg.

Arsenal fans surely saw this day coming but few expected it to come quite so soon. After selling Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas last summer, Arsene Wenger has failed to find replacements of the same quality. Mikel Arteta’s shortcomings there for all to see.

The worrying aspect for Arsenal fans will be the future of Robin Van Persie who has yet to sign a new contract with the London club. Should Arsenal fail to qualify for the Champions League this season which is anything but certain then many will expect the Dutchman to leave the club in the summer.
